Classic Borrowdale climbing! Two main buttresses, North buttress on the left and South buttress on the right.

Home to the deservedly popular Troutdale Pinnacle (S). Other classics include The Shroud (VS), The Mortician (HVS), Troutdale Pinnacle Superdirect (HVS), Raindrop (E1), Prana (E3) and Grand Alliance (E4).

A twenty minute walk from parking in laybys just south of the Leathes Head Hotel.  Alternatively Park in the Bowderstone NT car park and take the path at the left hand side back to Black Crag

Apart from showers on Monday afternoon, the weather forecast is dry and sunny. I discover that the crag is not named on my OS map: it is just under ‘Bleacrag Moss’. There are only a couple of parking spaces by the Borrowdale road, just beyond the beginning of the path to Troutdale. One alternative is to park at the Bowderstone car park and take a pleasant path over to where the normal path crosses the beck. (Another alternative is to take the bus from Keswick and walk back along the lake shore.) E-mail me (colesjonathan3@gmail.com) for car share from Cockermouth at 14.30. Note that some internet will be closed on Tuesday.

The rock had dried and the weather was perfect. As usual, there was a procession of ropes enjoying Troutdale Pinnacle, but The Shroud and Troutdale Ridge were also climbed and there was some playing around on the first pitch of Raindrop (E1). Brendan C, Ros D, Jamie, Mike M, Paul T, Mark W, Peter W, Mark M, Dan W, Ollie Y, Ann, Stu G and Jonathan C were there. We left the real climbers still drinking late in the pub.
