The weather gods smiled on us as we assembled near to Jesus Church, Troutbeck, for a change there was no rain, blue sky and a moderate breeze. We started uphill onto Robin lane with views over Windermere towards the western fells and out towards Morecambe bay, the gently rising lane painlessly increasing our altitude. After a mile or so the lane splits and the group turned North following Hundreds Road towards Wansfell Pike, the gentle rise continuing until the final steeper ascent to the summit of Wansfell. The wind, and windchill had increase significantly by now so, after briefly taking in the panoramic views accross Windermere, the group hastily set off towards Baystones. Baystones is a more northerly top providing views towards the fells to the North, South and East. From Baystones the descent was a little more challenging with uneven and waterlogged ground until the entrace to Nanny Lane was reached. After a brief break for coffee and sandwiches we continued down the walled lane to Troutbeck, and then onwards via fields and lanes back to the cars. The usual refreshment was taken at the Queens Head Hotel, Troutbeck before we went are separate ways home.

Thanks to Judith, Anne, Stuart, Celia, Carol, Kath, Steve, Jon, Ros and Geriant and Mark who joined Poppy, Molly and myself for a very pleasant and sociable winter walk

    Cheers
    Mark
