Andrew Stevenson, Marc Bannister, Ian M, Mark W and Jonathan C climbed Chrysalis Arete, Spearhead Rib, Outside Edge (twice), Boulder and Crack, and Eastern Buttress.
At 8.45 on a warm, sunny Saturday morning, the NT carpark outside Buttermere Village was nearly empty. The meeting place had been announced as The Fish Inn. However, the Fish Inn, having existed for at least three centuries, has now been renamed ‘The Buttermere Court Hotel’. Four of us went up the path beside Near Ruddy Beck and then across to the Lingcomb Edge path. This route was agreeably deserted, but we failed to find a comfortable connexion between the two paths. The top of Raven Crag was found without much difficulty. The crag has a splendid view across the Liza to Pillar and Steeple, and down over Ennderdale Water to the sea. The rock was warm, dry and with great friction, rarely with a dusting of lichen. Chrysalis Arete (led by Andrew) has a couple of moves that are bold for a VD; Eastern buttress was particularly appreciated.
We looked forward to a pint or two in the evening sunshine at the Fish (sorry, the Court Hotel) but there was a twenty minute queue just to place an order, so we went home.
