The morning dawned cool with overnight frost in the eastern Lake district but a small band of KMC climbers made the journey to Gouther Crag in Swindale near Haweswater. The first climbs required windproof layers, belay gloves together with lots of foot stamping and blowing on fingers fingers to keep frostbite to minimum, but by midday the sun had moved round and started to warm the rock and thaw the climbers. The afternoon session was like a different day and descibed by most as a delightful afternoons climbing. Routes completed included Truss Buttress, Truss Butress Direct, Sam, Kennel Wall, Left Edge and of course “The Fang”. Refreshments in the Queens Head, Askham fortified the team for the return journey. Thanks go to my partners in crime Brendan, Mark H, Geriant, Ros, Judith and Tina for ensuring it was an excellent final meet closing out the 2022 season perfectly, roll on April 2023
Cheers
Mark
