Afternoon all,
The rain bouncing off the windows reminds me that the summer programme of events is coming to a close and I am moving my attention to set up an autumn/winter programme of events. The Tuesday evening Kong sessions provide a good opportunity for closed season exercise and they have proved to be quite social in the past so they will continue this winter, week to week coordination will be via the KMC WhatsApp group
The schedule of winter walks and scrambles seemed to be well received last year so I propose to do similar this winter. To this end I have outlined the dates and types of meets on the attached draft schedule based on last winter’s schedule, I am looking to you suggest venues and routes, and of course for volunteers to lead each meet. The draft schedules can be found by following these links, word or PDF format to suit your preference

https://keswickmountaineeringclub.com/download/25/meet-list/77615/weekend-meets-autumn_winter-2024-draft-1-2.pdfA Winter Walk or Autumn Amble is a shorter/lower-level walk which provides opportunities which are less weather sensitive across the autumn/winter period, perhaps to places which are off the beaten track a bit and hopefully with a bit of interest. Do you know a walk which fits this description, maybe 6-8 miles and under say 2000 ft, would you be prepared to lead one? if so let me know
A scramble usually takes in an established scrambling route and may require the use of rope/harness and helmet if the route is steep/slippery or difficult, again ideas and leaders required for these
If you are a keen winter mountaineer and would be prepared to lead a winter mountaineering meet in January/Feb perhaps again please let me know. I know several members who would be keen to join a meet… just not quite so keen on leading one! As the weather is always unpredictable as last year, I am putting a number of holding events in the Winter diary which may be cancelled or could go ahead if the conditions are good
Finally, if you have any feedback from this year’s programmes or any suggestions for different events or new venues going forward, I am always keen to hear them, after all its your club
Please do not respond directly to this email, respond to me via email to markward1962@gmail.com or through the KMC WhatsApp group
I look forward to being overwhelmed with offers
Cheers
