On a cool windless morning 7 members and some guests assembled at Park Gate Car Park before setting off to ascend Gowbarrow fell. The walk started by following Aira force from its mid point up stream, the falls were spectacular following the recent rain. At the top of the falls the route first took them up onto the top of Gowbarrow fell and then onto a gently descending path skirting Gowbarrow Park eventuallyreaching the front of the fell overlooking Ullswater. Spectacular views accompanied the group for a mile or so until the memorial seat was reached where sandwiches were consumed in a spectacular position high above the lake. The final leg continued the descent until a short upward path following the lower reaches of Aira Force took them back to the start point.
The group split for refreshments with some prefferring tea and scones to beer and crisps !
Thanks to all who joined me for what was generally regarded as a pleasant winter walk, members were Stuart and Celia, Martin A, Ann, Tina and Geriant, my guests with were Ian and Fred together with K9s Poppy and Molly.
Till next time
Cheers
Mark
