Next AC Lakes Lecture: Thursday 24th October – David Hamilton
The next AC Lakes lecture is on Thursday 24th October when David Hamilton will be joining us to speak about his ski-traverse of the Alps. As a mountaineer who has completed the 7 Summits twice (Everest, Aconcagua, Denali, Kilimanjaro, Vinson, Elbrus and Carstensz) with multiple ascents of some of them, it is worth noting that David considers that this is “Probably the world’s best ski expedition”.The following talk is on Thursday 28th November, when Dave Wynn-Jones will be introducing his book about planning expeditions.

AC Lakes Lecture OrganiserThursday, 24th October: TransAlp Ski – David Hamilton
This is an account of a multi-year ski tour following the entire arc of the European Alps from Menton on the French Mediterranean coast to Vienna. The route through France, Italy, Switzerland and Austria follows the crest of Europe’s highest mountain chain, passing through regions popular in summer but deserted in winter. It was a journey of 102 stages completed over 129 days covering 2,113km with 115,058m ascent.
Venue: The Greta Suite of the Skiddaw Hotel, Main Street, Keswick, CA12 5BL
Doors Open: 7pm. Lectures Start: 7.30pm.
The lectures are free to AC Members. Non-members are welcome to attend for a suggested donation of £3-£5 to the Montane Alpine Club Climbing Fund.
Thursday, 28th November: Dave Wynne-Jones – An Approach to Expeditions
Dave will talk about expedition organisation and relate some tales of how these principles were applied (or not) in his own expedition career. He will also address the difficulties of managing expeditions in the midst of a climate crisis. -
