Good selection of short (20-25m) mainly single pitch middle grade routes. There is loose rock on routes, but manageable. Dries quite quickly in summer. Harder routes are quite bold. Don’t miss Route 2(HS), Tritus/Protus(HVS).
Good evening crag – close to Wainwrights Inn!!

Raven Crag, Walthwaite, Langdale – 12th August 2026
Tuesday’s meet is at Raven Crag Walthwaite and the forecast is good. The crag has a good selection of mostly single pitch routes from severe upwards and is a short walk up from the road. Parking is in a small layby below the crag but there are only 2 or 3 spaces and parking is generally scarce in Chapel Stile. Alternatively there is a pay car park in Elterwater.I will be at the crag at 3:30, driving from Coniston. Drinks will be taken afterwards at Wainwright’s Inn in Chapel Stile.

A warm day led to lovely conditions for an evening’s climb at Raven Crag, Walthwaite. Views over Langdale and Windermere and the chiming of the bells in the village were only spoiled by shouts of climbing and safe! A good turnout of Stuart, Pete, Mark, Steve, Kath, Geraint, Bry, Jon and Tina completing several routes each including Route 1, Enterprize, Hardup Wall, Route 2, Protus and Swing to the Right. The evening ended in Wainwrights’ Inn with views across to the scene of earlier endeavours.
