A selection of short and long (three pitch) routes on six different buttresses along the hillside above the Old Dungeon Ghyll Hotel. Good selection at all grades. Quick drying. Best routes – Middlefell Buttress(D), Original Route(S), Pluto(HVS), Trilogy(E5), Dawes Rides a Shovelhead(E8), Centrefold(E6), R ‘n’ S Special(E5), Bilberry Buttress(VS), Revelation(HS). Take care on the SE descent past the large block above the top of Revelation, which was affected by rockfall in August 2018 – further information on an alternative (abseil) descent has been posted here: https://www.ukclimbing.com/forums/rocktalk/more_on_raven_crag_rockfall-691587

Approach notes
Park in the car park at the Old Dungeon Ghyll Hotel Crags are 10 – 15 min. walk up behind the pub.

    Good Afternoon all,
The forecast for tomorrow is good so thia meet is on. Recognising the travel time to Langdale I will be leaving Cockermouth about 2 which should get me on the crag by about 3:15

If you are going tomorrow I would appreciate a heads up as the crag is quite spread out so finding club members can be tricky, Also if you would like to lift share from Cockermouth or be picked up en-route I am happy to do that.

As usual please do not reply directly to this email but instead email to markward1962@gmail.com or via the KMC Whats App group

    Cheers
    Mark

Another balmy evening met the KMC “home Guard” (not in the Dollies) as they arrrived at the ODG Car Park. The short walk in led to the usual amount of huffing, puffing and groaning which was, no doubt, amplified by the ambient weather.

The crag was in perfect condition warm and dry with just a little breeze, routes climbed included Bilberry Butress, Original route, Centipede and Evening wall. KMC members in attendance were Roland, Jonathan, Mark M, Dan, Ros, Pete W, Mike Wilson, and Mark W and I think it is safe to say everyone thorougly enjoyed their climbing.

The evening was finished perfectly with a pint sitting outside the ODG as the sun set around us, even a last ditch assault by the midges failed to spoil what was a very congenial evening.

    Cheers
    Mark
