This weeks Tuesday meet is High Crag at Buttermere. The crag offers very good quality routes in the HS to E1 range. If you cannot lead at that grade but are happy seconding in that range, please come along. The crag is quite compact, so it is easy to find people once there if following on later in afternoon.

The weather forecast is hot and dry, with a gentle breeze.

I intend to leave Gates Garth at 3pm or slightly later. Please let me know if you are coming, by whatsapp or email markamegan@gmail.com

Walk in is around 45 mins from Gates Garth Farm. Follow the path across the valley and up towards Scarth Gap until you reach a gate, from where you follow a fence up the hill keeping to its left hand side.

It was a warm muggy afternoon/evening and a sweaty 45 minute uphill walk-in was not appealing.  The effort was worth it in the end and a surprising number of KMCers made it (Too much football on TV?!), David even headed up just for the fun of the walk-in (note to all members – make sure you pack your harness!).  Others included Mike W, Jon T, Cath, Johnny, Tina, Matt, Ed ,Adam, Anne, Mick, Jonathan and Geraint (Probably some others I have missed?).  We also welcomed new member Tim.

After a brief pause to cool down and for Jon T to impress with his repartee a good evenings climbing was had.  Adam and Ed took on a slightly lichenous Lost Colonies Direct, multiple accents of Delilah and Samson were made as well as Artefact, Dry Trim, High Crag Buttress and I’m sure Ludo or Nameless Route got some attention.     The evening ended with Tina topping out in the gloom on Delilah. With a late finish, and dispersed leaving, the pub was forsaken.

Thanks to all who joined me, particularly those who appreciated my fore thought of organising a shady crag on a hot day

    Mark M.
