he quarry has recently been bolted (2021) with some new lines along with the old trad ones which have been retro bolted, making this a useful little sport crag. This is the obvious quarry above the road on the Whinlatter Pass between Braithwaite and Lorton.

FRCC pdf guide here: https://www.frcc.co.uk/mini-guide-downloads/

There is some bouldering with topos found here: https://27crags.com/crags/scawgill-bridge-quarry/topos/sector-1-29595

Conditions: The quarry is comprised of reasonable quality slate which is quick to dry on the Arete Butttess but the Kong Wall on the right has some natural drainage, so is wet for much of the winter and seeps after days of rain.

Approach

Park in the layby (4-6 cars) adjacent to the bridge on the Whinlatter Pass. Go through the gate and follow the path to the right of the gravel pit. Above the gravel, follow the path rightwards for 100 metres (ignore short cuts up scree) and then turn back left along a path through gorse to the crag.

The forecast is looking good for Tuesday so the meet is on.
A successful meet was had last year.
The quarry has recently been bolted (2021) with some new lines along with the old trad ones which have been retro bolted, making this a useful little sport crag – mainly 5’s and 6’s. This is the obvious quarry above the road on the Whinlatter Pass between Braithwaite and Lorton. NY 177258
The link below gives takes you to the topo which includes access to the crag. Parking is tight – 4 – 6 cars so lift sharing will help.
There’s also free? Forestry Commission parking for Spout Force back along the road to Whinlatter.
    I’ll be there around 4.
Pub afterwards – The Wheatsheaf in Lorton.

    Scawgill Bridge Quarry Tuesday 6/8/24.

Well the Olympics didn’t appear to dampen the turnout to Scawgill Quarry last night, with an en masse assault of 16 KMC members at the crag. Those climbing included David, Dan, Sam, Mark, Mike, Steve, Kath, Claire, Scott, Stu, Bry, Jonathan, Mick, Aileen, Mike and Andy. It would be easier to list the climbs not done. Those ascended were Hydrophobia, Switchblade, Sarcopenia, Still Crazy after all these years, Wilderness Edge, Kleptomania, The Azov Brigade, The Book Thief, Genga, Whinlatter wall direct, Scawgill Grooves, Bootlegger, Prohibition, Kong Korner, King Kong and Border Force.

I hope that’s everyone and everything climbed. Thanks to everyone for making such a social evening. Drinks were had afterwards in The Wheatsheaf.

    Cheers, Andy
