ParticipantSteel Knotts, Borrowdale, Tuesday 11th August 2026
With unsurprisingly yet another stupendous summer’s day predicted by a throw of the runes and confirmed by the oracle for tomorrow, the meet will be most certainly going ahead.
The startling beautiful crag of Steel Knotts has captivated climbers for centuries(well, decades at least), with it’s soaring walls, cracks and corners, providing a prestigious array of lines to tempt the modern rock climber. Highlights include ‘The Sting’, viewed as a delightful and pleasant jamming crack or a brutal challenge by others, it’s sure to leave a burning impression. A little further to the right, can be found the appealing Ambling Ant, a low end VS which gives an excellent and welcoming excursion through the central area of the cliff. The photogenic arete of The Lost Boys is one of the more amenable offerings from Lakeland legend Pete Whillance, while Loss Adjustor by the renowned Coniston based Rick Graham gives a fine intriguing, intricate and somewhat puzzling direct finish.
All the routes can be climbed as a single pitch, with the diminutive height of the crag making it ideal to grab a ’toppy’ for those wishing to push their grade…
If the delectable waters of Dalt quarry don’t tempt you on the descent, perhaps the soothing haven of The Borrowdale Hotel may be more to you liking….
