It is with great sadness that we have to inform you of the death Roland on Saturday 10th January whilst out in the Hellvelyn area. It appears he collapsed and despite the efforts of onsite retired doctors, Keswick MRT and Patterdale MRT he could not be revived.
Roland was a very well liked and active KMC member since 2021 and also belonged to Eden Valley CC and the Alpine Club
Here is a message from his wife Nicola;
“Dear all at Keswick MC,
I am so sorry to tell you the that my dear husband Roland collapsed and died while climbing a snow gully on Helvellyn on Saturday. The mountain rescue service and doctors at the scene did all they could but he could not be revived and he was brought down to Patterdale in the helicopter. The police and mountain rescue gave us and Roland so much care and dignity.
The coroner will be dealing with this to start with and then we will be able to make funeral arrangements.
With best wishes and in sorrow
Nicola Jackson”
We will keep you informed about his funeral in due course
Our deepest thoughts and condolences go to his family and friends
