ModeratorThank you to all subs renewals received so far. Your 2026 membership cars etc are in the post.
If you have yet to renew we hope to receive your subs of £30 payable to:
The Keswick Mountaineering Club Sort Code: 40-18-03 A/c No; 51289667
Please be sure to put your full name and subs26 into the pay reference
Here is a few notes on why we have an annual subscription fee.
Keswick Mountaineering Club is affiliated with the British Mountaineering Club. The subs we receive from individual members are paid to the BMC so that every KMC member has affiliated membership.
INSURANCE: The main thing that both the Club and its members get in return is peace of mind. In the event that the club, its officers or its members is sued for injury, financial loss or damage resulting from the negligence of any of those parties, we are covered under the BMC’s Combined Liability Policy up to a maximum of £15,000,000. Of course, as with any insurance policy, we hope that the horrible thing we are insuring against will never happen – but the consequences if does can be life-changing, so insurance makes sense.
As a member of a BMC affiliated club you have Third Party insurance (i.e. for injury or damage you cause to someone else) for all mountaineering, rock-climbing, and hill walking activities in both winter and summer, indoor and outdoor, including orienteering, canyoning and camping – whether undertaken as part of a club meet or on an individual basis. Secondary activities including mountain biking and kayaking are insured within the context of a club meet.
OTHER BENEFITS: Subs enable the BMC to carry out a number of activities that benefit the climbing community as a whole. These include:
Protecting crags and mountains and promoting environmental sustainability
Campaigning for improved access
Providing technical and safety advice
Providing skills training
Keeping climbing heritage alive through supporting the Mountain Heritage Trust.
