Shepherd’s Crag is a crag in Borrowdale, Cumbria that provides superb rock climbing at every grade on cliffs up to about 50m high. It is a very popular crag, mainly due to its easy access, though many of the routes are of great quality, e.g. Brown Slab Routes(D-VS), Little Chamonix(VD), Ardus(MVS), Derision Groove(MVS), Adam and Eve(VS), Fishers Folly(VS), Kransic Crack(HVS), Finale(HVS), Aaros(E1), Grasp(E1), Bludgeon(E1).

Note The UKC website states that parking is no longer available at High Lodore Farm

    Morning All,
Weather forecast for tomorrow is currently good so this meet is going ahead. I will be at the crag from about 3 o’clock onwards, however, as it is a big crag and difficult to determine how many members are actually there please let me know if you intend to come along and I will look out for you. I can be contacted on markward1962@gmail.com or msg/WhatsApp to 07500155064

    Road Closures
As most of you will have seen there are to be a series of road closures over the next few weeks around Borrowdale. The closures come into place between 1800 and 2300. Tomorrow is the first day when the Borrowdale road may be closed so if you are arriving after 6, and when we leave, the route in/out of the valley will be either round the back of Derwentwater via Portinscale and Grange or over Honister pass, whichever suits best. If you prefer avoid the detours and to join Matt/Ros at an alternative venue I will not be offended just as long as we are taking advantage of the weather.

    Cheers
    Mark

On a beautiful spring evening 11 members of the KMC visited Shepherds Crag in Borrowdale. The weather was warm, the climbing was “hot”. Routes bagged included Brown Crags Wall, Brown Slabs and Brown Slabs Direct, Jaws, Eve, North Buttress, PS and Wild Sheep. Refreshments and post climb analysis were enjoyed in the Borrowdale hotel. Thanks to Ed, Mike W, Mark M, Tina, Mike K, Scott, Adam, Pete, Brian and Geraint who joined me in a great evenings climbing.

Borrowdale Traffic: Last night the anticipated “road closure” came into force at 1800 as expected. However we were surprised to observe that a convoy system was in place to manage local traffic past the works which meant the exit was down Borrowdale as usual just following a works vehicle. My guess is that this will be the system for the duration as the road is two lane all the way.

However on the way up the valley after 1800 you will be turned round at the Borrowdale roundabout unless you are heading to one of the hotels or live up the valley. So late arrivals take note it is technically correct that you are heading to the Borrowdale Hotel……just dont mention that is after an hour or twos climbing!

    Cheers
    Mark
