Head End Quarry forms one of a series of small limestone quarries found in the Carboniferous Limestone which forms a ridge around the northern edge of the English Lake District.

The quarry has a south facing aspect and is about 30 feet high and 140 feet long. It is relatively quick to dry, has a series of single pitch routes which are suitable for novices.

    Happy Easter!

The first KMC outdoor climbing meet of the year is this Tuesday 11th April at Head End Quarry, near Ireby. The quarry has a south facing aspect and is about 30 feet high and 140 feet long. It is reasonably quick to dry and has a series of single pitch routes, suitable for novices. It’s a good, place for the first meet of a season, to build your confidence for the meets ahead.

Although we’ve had great weather with blue skies and sunshine for the last few days, the forecast for Tuesday is not so great. We may need to postpone until the Thursday afternoon/evening (when the forecast is also not fantastic) – so watch WhatsApp on Monday/Tuesday for more info.

If the weather looks like it might stay dry, I’ll be at the crag from about 4pm.

    Cheers Stuart

Hi, I went up on Tuesday just in case and waited till about 1610 but gather it was cancelled – it did start to rain just after anyway. Is it on for tomorrow (Thu)?
    Carol.
P.S. a huge block has fallen out of the second ‘chimney’ along – just at the start of the final, Eastern wall! 😮
