Head End Quarry forms one of a series of small limestone quarries found in the Carboniferous Limestone which forms a ridge around the northern edge of the English Lake District.

The quarry has a south facing aspect and is about 30 feet high and 140 feet long. It is relatively quick to dry, has a series of single pitch routes which are suitable for novices.

Tomorrows meet is Head end Quarry. In line with a damp end to the summer the forecasts are marginal, but with the ultra short walk-in I am willing to risk it and hope for a dry gap!

I’ll be at Head End from 3.30 tomorrow afternoon.

    Hope to see you then
    Mark

Mark W, Carol and Cath all arrived in good time to climb at head end. Aileen joined us, soloing with Steve, and all went well until Jon’s arrival heralded the slow start of the rain arriving, earlier than expected. Several climbs were done prior to the rain, Dodgy Neck, Nippo Crack, Controlled Gurning, West End Direct and Head End Chimney. However, the rain intensified and the sodden group left. Aileen and Steve extended an invitation to their Bably Barn bouldering wall, so a few boulder problems in the dry with refreshment rounded off the afternoon/evening. Thanks to Aileen and Steve for their invite and hospitality.
